Safeguarding is everyone’s business – So never ever do nothing.

(A combination of two quotes by  Lord Laming following the death of Victoria Climbie)

Carlinghow Princess Royal School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in school.

We follow the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board procedures.  The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their children.  However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Kirklees Safeguarding and Specialist Provision (Social Services) and/or the police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures).  The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the umbrella term for Safe Recruitment and Child Protection.

Safe Recruiting

All staff appointed to Carlinghow Princess Royal School are subject to an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

Child Protection

All staff have been trained in Child Protection procedures.  The training includes understanding what is meant by:

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Neglect

and how to recognise signs of the above.

Staff have also been trained in what to do if they suspect abuse, or if abuse is disclosed to them.

All disclosure or suspicions of abuse are reported to the Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding, Mr A Wilcock. In his absence, referrals are made to Mrs C Peel  All referrals result in Mr A Wilcock or Mrs C Peel following the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board procedures.

E-Safety

The school also has to follow guidelines on keeping children safe when they use the internet. Children are taught five key principles which they can use to keep safe. The internet is such a valuable resource but poses so many potential threats to the safety and well-being of the person using it. If you would like any support or advice in how you can ensure your child is using the internet safely then please contact school.
